Today it is absolutely stunning outside! Clear blue sky, sunshine and minus 10 degrees, perfect skiing weather. It also snowed about 12 cm this weekend so the condtions are GREAT!

Norwegian Winter holiday

Weather today:

Valley 650 masl: a bit cloudy, -13 degrees
Top station of Hemsedal Skisenter, 1100 masl: a bit cloudy, – 10 degrees

The Norwegians have started their winter holiday now and the World Championship in Oslo is starting today!

Tomorrow is Salomon Jib Acadamy taking place in Hemsedal Skisenter and on Saturday you can participate or watch the Norhtern Rails Trick Master competition.

Minus 10 degrees and snow!

This week is the Danish winter holiday and quite a few have found the way to Hemsedal!

Last weekend was cold with temperatures down to minus 25. The funny thing is that although it was cold in the valley, it was a lot warmer higher up, between minus 10 and 13, and that is absolutely bearable.

The weather forecast last Sunday looked grim, showing temperatures down to minus 31! But it was all wrong:) Instead we have had agreeable minus 10 and it has snowed a bit of light powder every day! So I think and hope that our Danish guests are happy with the conditions.

This weekend the winner of “Pimp your Campingwagon” will show its wagon at Hemsedal Skisenter, outside Hemsedal Alpin Lodge. There will be free coke and hotdogs and demo of Flow Snowboards.

It finally came some snow last nigth!!!  We have been waiting for this for a couple of weeks or so. The ski condtions are now great, both downhill and cross country!

This weekend there will be a downhill qualification competition for the international children’s ski race in Slovenia later this season.

There will also be an event; “Didriks Speedflying & Freeride Festival” in slope nr 17. Speedflying is skiing with a parachute, so you are actually skiing in the air, a little bit over the ground. Might be fun to watch

Snow conditions

Weather today at 10.00: +3 and windy (wind from the west), a bit cloudy 

December was cold and it came hardly any snow. The conditions in Hemsedal Skisenter was still quite good though. Due to the cold they were able to produce a lot of snow.

But the second week in January the weather gods finally decided to give us some much needed snow!

Status today for alpine skiing: 

• 23 of 24 lifts are open
• 39 of 51 slopes are open
• Snow depth terrain: 80 cm
• Snow depth slopes: 95 cm
• Avalanche danger: grade 3

 Status today for cross country:

• All 190 km machine groomed tracks are groomed
• The mountain tracks will be groomed around week 7, if the snow conditions allow this
• The mountain track, Beihovdløypa in Holdeskaret, is groomed using the snow mobile every weekend during the whole winter season

The ski season has started!

Hemsedal Ski resort opend already the first weekend in November.

It came some snow in October and mid November, but since 3 weeks it has been very cold (down to -30 some days) and absolutely no snow!

Even so the ski conditions are very good! The cold temperatures have been perfect to produce a lot of snow and the quality of the snow is excellent.
There are now 14 slopes open, a total of 13 km and a decent of 610 meters.
Evening skiing has also started so the opening hours are no as follows:

Daily: 09.00-15.30
Evening skiing: Monday, Wednesday-Friday: 18.00-21.00

Soon Winter

Last week was atumn holiday for East Norway and it was quite busy with many guests.

From Friday until Wednesday it rained heavily, the river was really big and flooded over some places. But on Thursday the sun finally came through and the rest of the week was beautiful.

It is already dark before 8 pm now and it is pretty cold during the nigths. This morning it was -3..

Hopefully the ski centre can produce some snow soon. The opening date is set to November 5th, only 3,5 weeks away
